Uses of Distinon Tablets

Pyridostigmine Tablets (Distinon) – Dosage
Take the tablet by mouth with or without food. The size and frequency of the dosage must be adjusted to the needs of the individual patient.
The average dose is ten Distinon 60 mg tablets daily, spaced to provide maximum relief when maximum strength is needed. In severe cases as many as 25 tablets a day may be required, while in mild cases one to six tablets a day may suffice. Swallow tablets whole. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets. Doing so can destroy the long action of the drug and may increase side effects. Taking Distinon with food or milk may help to decrease side effects. Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy.
Drug Class and Mechanism
Pyridostigmine is a parasympathomimetic and a reversible cholinesterase inhibitor. Since it is a quaternary amine, it is poorly absorbed in the gut and does not cross the blood-brain barrier, except possibly in stressful conditions.
Pyridostigmine Bromide Tablets inhibits the destruction of acetylcholine by cholinesterase and thereby permits freer transmission of nerve impulses across the neuromuscular junction. Pyridostigmine is an analog of neostigmine, but differs from it in certain clinically significant respects; for example, Pyridostigmine is characterized by a longer duration of action and fewer gastrointestinal side effects.
