Drug Class and Mechanism
Melalite cream is an de-pigmenting agent. Hydroquinone, contained in Melalite cream, decreases the formation of melanin (the pigment in the skin which produces brown color) in the skin. This medication may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Warnings and Precautions
It is not likely that other medications you take will have an effect on the ingredient hydroquinone contained in Melalite cream. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using Melalite cream (hydroquinone topical) and call your doctor if you have severe burning, stinging, or other irritation of your skin after applying the medication. Using this medication together with benzoyl peroxide, hydrogen peroxide, or other peroxide products may stain your skin. This staining can usually be removed with soap and water. Avoid exposure to sunlight or artificial UV rays (sunlamps or tanning beds). This medication can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, and sunburn may result. Use a sunscreen (minimum SPF 15) and wear protective clothing if you must be out in the sun. Avoid getting Hydroquinone Topical Cream into your mouth, eyes and nose and on your lips. Do not use Melalite cream when you are pregnant. It can cause harm to the fetus.
