Generic Gabapentin (Gabasign Capsules and tablets) is used for the treatment of epilepsy (as adjunctive therapy) and to relieve neuropathic pain (severe pain along the course of a nerve). It is also used for the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia, seizures and hot flashes. Gabasign is supplied as capsules containing 300 mg of the active ingredient Gabapentin. Gabasign is supplied as tablets containing 600 mg and 800 mg of the active ingredient Gabapentin.

Generic Gabapentin Capsules and Tablets (Gabasign) – Dosage
Gabasign is administered orally with or without food. The recommended adult dosage for various indications is given below:
Postherpetic Neuralgia
In adults with postherpetic neuralgia, Gabantin therapy may be started as a single 300-mg dose on Day 1, 600 mg/day on Day 2 (300 mg twice a day), and 900 mg/day on Day 3 (300 mg thrice a day). The dose can subsequently be increased as needed for pain relief upto to a daily dose of 1800 mg (600 mg thrice a day).
Epilepsy
Gabantin is recommended for add on therapy in patients 3 years of age and older. For adult patients (age 12 and above)the effective dose of Gabapentin is 900 to 1800 mg/day and given in divided doses (three times a day). The starting dose of Gabantin Capsules is 300 mg three times a day. If required , the dose may be increased to up to 1800 mg/day using 3 divided doses.
Storage Instructions for Gabasign Capsules and Tablets
Gabasign (Generic Gabapentin Capsules and Tablets) should be kept at room temperature, 15-30°C (59-86°F) in a light-resistant, tight container. Keep away from children and pets.
Warnings and Precautions when using Generic Gabapentin Capsules and Tablets

Side Effects of Generic Gabapentin Capsules and Tablets (Gabasign)
The most commonly observed side effects associated with the use of Gabapentin in adults undergoing treatment for postherpetic neuralgia, were dizziness, somnolence, and peripheral edema. The adverse events that most frequently led to withdrawal in Gabapentin treated patients were dizziness, somnolence, and nausea.
The most common side effects associated with the use of Gabapentin capsules and tablets in combination with other antiepileptic drugs in adult patients being treated for epilepsy were somnolence, dizziness, ataxia, fatigue, and nystagmus.
Contraindications
Gabasign Capsules and Tablets are contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Gabapentin or any inactive ingredient of the medication.
Gabapentin and Pregnancy
Gabapentin (Gabasign capsules and tablets) have been classified as pregnancy category C. Gabapentin has been shown to be fetotoxic in rodents, causing 235 delayed ossification of several bones in the skull, vertebrae, forelimbs, and hindlimbs. This medication should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
Gabapentin (Gabasign Capsules and Tablets) Overdose
There have been reports of acute oral overdoses of Gabapentin up to 49 grams. The symptoms of overdose that were observed in these cases were double vision, slurred speech, drowsiness, lethargy and diarrhea. All patients recovered with supportive care. However, if required by the patient’s clinical state, Gabapentin can also be removed by hemodialysis.
