Foratec rotacaps is a Long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonists (LABA) used for treatment of asthma in patients 5 years and older as an add-on to a long-term asthma control medication such as an inhaled corticosteroid. Formoterol Fumarate 12 mcg dry inhalation powder is also used for prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm (EIB) in patients in patients 5 years and older and for the maintenance treatment of bronchoconstriction in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Foratec rotacaps have to be used with an appropriate inhaler i.e. Cipla Rotahaler.

The active pharmaceutical ingredient contained in Foratec rotacaps is Formoterol Fumarate. One rotacap (capsule) contains 12 micrograms of Formoterol Fumarate Dihydrate.
Formoterol Fumarate 12 mcg Inhalation Powder – Dosage
Foratec rotacaps is for oral inhalation only. Do not swallow the capsule. The rotacap should be always used with Cipla Rotahaler ONLY. The dosage for various indications is given below:
- Treatment of asthma in patients 5 years and above:
Inhalation of one capsule every 12 hours in addition to concomitant treatment with a long-term control medication such as an inhaled corticosteroid. - Exercise-Induced Bronchospasm (EIB):
Inhalation of one capsule at least 15 minutes before exercise. Additional doses should not be used for 12 hours. - Maintenance treatment of bronchoconstriction in patients with COPD:
Inhalation of one capsule every 12 hours
Drug Class and Mechanism
Formoterol Fumarate is a long-acting beta2-adrenergic receptor agonist (beta2-agonist). Inhaled Formoterol Fumarate acts locally in the lung as a bronchodilator.
Inhaled formoterol works like other beta2-agonists, causing bronchodilation by relaxing the smooth muscle in the airway so as to treat the exacerbation of asthma.Formoterol Fumarate has been demonstrated to have a faster onset of action than salmeterol.
What to Do in Case You Miss a Dose
In case you miss a dose of Formoterol Fumarate inhalation powder, just skip that dose. Take your next dose at your usual time. Never take 2 doses at one time.
Storage Instructions
Store at 20°C to 25°C(68°F to 77°F). Protect from heat and moisture. Rotacapss should always be stored in the blister and only removed from the blister immediately before use. Keep out of the reach of children
Warnings and Precautions to be taken when using Foratec Rotacaps (Formoterol Fumarate 12 mcg Inhalation Powder)
Before using this medicine please inform your doctor all the medicines that you take including no prescription medications, over the counter medicines and herbal remedies. Certain types of medicines for example beta-blockers (some heart medicines or eye drops) may reduce or block the effect of Foratec rotacaps when taken at the same time. Also inform about all health problems you have now or have had in the past, especially if you have a heart disorder, diabetes, or a disturbed thyroid function (thyrotoxicosis), if you have ever had a bad, unusual or allergic reaction to formoterol or lactose or to other medicines for breathing problems, if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or are breast feeding. The other precautions to be taken when using are:
- Asthma-related deaths and asthma-related hospitalizations:
LABA increase the risk. Foratec rotacaps should be prescribed for asthma only as concomitant therapy with a long-term control medication such as an inhaled corticosteroid. - Deterioration of asthma and acute episodes:
Do not initiate during acutely deteriorating asthma. Do not use Foratec rotacaps to treat acute symptoms. - Corticosteroids:
Not a substitute for corticosteroids. Corticosteroids should not be stopped or reduced when Foratec rotacaps is initiated. - Use with additional long-acting beta2-agonist:
Do not use in combination with LABA because of risk of overdose. - Paradoxical bronchospasm:
Discontinue Foratec rotacaps (Formoterol Fumarate inhalation powder) and institute alternative therapy if paradoxical bronchospasm occurs. - Patients with cardiovascular or central nervous system disorders:
Use with caution because of beta-adrenergic stimulation. - Coexisting conditions:
Use with caution in patients with convulsive disorders, thyrotoxicosis, diabetes mellitus, ketoacidosis, aneurysm, and pheochromocytoma. - Metabolic effects:
Be alert to hypokalemia and hyperglycemia.

Hypersensitivity to Formoterol Fumarate or any inactive components of this product. Use of Foratec rotacaps to treat Asthma without concomitant use of a long-term asthma control medication such as an inhaled corticosteroid is contraindicated.
