Rifaximin Tablets (Rifagut) – Product Information

Rifaximin is used to treat bacterial infection in the intestines. It has to be used only to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria.
Rifaximin is an antibiotic that works differently from other antibiotics because it passes through your stomach and into your intestines without being absorbed into your blood stream. Because rifaximin treats only the intestinal tract, it will not treat infections of other parts of the body. Rifagut tablets, manufactured by Sun Pharmaceuticals Ltd. are available in strengths of 200 mg, 400 mg and 550 mg.
We also stock Ciplox (Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride tablets) which is used for treating bacterial infections. It may also be used to prevent or slow anthrax after exposure.

Uses of  Rifaximin Tablets

Rifaximin  is a semisynthetic, rifamycin-based non-systemic antibiotic, meaning that very little of the drug will pass the gastrointestinal wall into the circulation as is common for other types of orally administered antibiotics. Rifaximin is also used to lower the risk of worsened brain function, or hepatic encephalopathy (he-PAT-ik en-SEF-a-LOP-ath-ee), in adults with liver failure. Brain function can be affected when the liver stops working and cannot remove toxic substances from the body.

Rifagut Tablets (Rifaximin) – Limitations of Use

Rifagut Tablets should not be administered to patients with diarrhea complicated by fever or blood in the stool or diarrhea due to pathogens other than Escherichia coli.

This results in the blockage of the translocation step that normally follows the formation of the first phosphodiester bond, which occurs in the transcription process
