Red Serpent Tablets – Contraindications

Red Serpent tablets are contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to Sildenafil Citrate or any inactive ingredient present in Red Serpent tablets. They are also contraindicated in the following cases:

• Administration of Red Serpent to patients using nitric oxide donors, such as organic nitrates or organic nitrites in any form is contraindicated. Red Serpent was shown to potentiate the hypotensive effect of nitrates.
• Severe hepatic impairment (decreased liver function)
• Severe impairment in renal function
• Red Serpent is contraindicated in men for whom sexual intercourse is inadvisable due to cardiovascular risk factors
• Hypotension (low blood pressure)
• Recent stroke or heart attack
• Hereditary degenerative retinal disorders (including genetic disorders of retinal phosphodiesterases)

Red Serpent Tablets – Dosage

The recommended dose of Red Serpent tablets for most patients is 50 mg to 120 mg taken, as needed, approximately 1 hour before sexual activity. However, Red Serpent may be taken anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours before sexual activity.
The maximum recommended dosing frequency is once per day. Based on effectiveness and toleration, the dose may be increased to a maximum recommended dose of 120 mg or decrease to 25 mg. The physiologic mechanism of erection of the penis involves release of Nitric Oxide (NO) in the corpus cavernosum during sexual stimulation. NO then activates the enzyme guanylate cyclase, which results in increased levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), producing smooth muscle relaxation in the corpus cavernosum and allowing inflow of blood. Sildenafil (Red Serpent ED tablets )enhances the effect of NO by inhibiting phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), which is responsible for degradation of cGMP in the corpus cavernosum. Sildenafil has no direct relaxant effect on isolated human corpus cavernosum. When sexual stimulation causes local release of NO, inhibition of PDE5 by sildenafil causes increased levels of cGMP in the corpus cavernosum, resulting in smooth muscle relaxation and inflow of blood to the corpus cavernosum. Sildenafil at recommended doses has no effect in the absence of sexual stimulation.

Red Serpent tablets (Generic Sildenafil Citrate tablets) are used to treat men who have erectile dysfunction (also called sexual impotence). In combination with sexual stimulation, Sildenafil works by increasing blood flow to the penis to help a man get and keep an erection. Sildenafil belongs to a group of medicines called phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. These medicines prevent an enzyme called phosphodiesterase type-5 from working too quickly. The penis is one of the areas where this enzyme works.
Erectile dysfunction is a medical condition where the penis does not harden and expand when a man is sexually excited, or when he cannot keep an erection. When a man is sexually stimulated, his body’s normal response is to increase blood flow to his penis to produce an erection. Warnings and Precautions to be taken when using Generic Sildenafil 120 mg Tablets

Before using Red Serpent tablets please inform your doctor about all the medicines that you take including no prescription medications, over the counter medicines and herbal remedies.

Also inform your doctor about all your existing medical conditions including but not limited to heart problems such as a heart attack, irregular heartbeat, angina, chest pain, narrowing of the aortic valve or heart failure, heart surgery, stroke, low or high blood pressure, deformed penis, erection lasting 4 hours or more, sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia, retinitis pigmentosa, temporary severe vision loss, bleeding problems, stomach ulcers, liver or kidney problems. The other warnings and precautions to be taken are:

• Patients should not use Red Serpent tablets if sexual activity is inadvisable due to cardiovascular status
• Patients should seek emergency treatment if an erection lasts for more than 4 hours. Use Red Serpent with caution in patients predisposed to priapism.
• Patients should stop Red Serpent and seek medical care if a sudden loss of vision occurs in one or both eyes, which could be a sign of non arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). Red Serpent should be used with caution, and only when the anticipated benefits outweigh the risks, in patients with a history of NAION. Patients with a "crowded" optic disc may also be at an increased risk of NAION.
• Patients should stop using Red Serpent and seek prompt medical attention in the event of sudden decrease or loss of hearing.
• Caution is advised when Red Serpent is co-administered with alpha-blockers or anti-hypertensives. Concomitant use may lead to hypotension.
• Decreased blood pressure, syncope, and prolonged erection may occur at higher sildenafil exposures. In patients taking strong CYP inhibitors, such as ritonavir, sildenafil exposure is increased. Decrease in Red Serpent dosage is recommended.

Side Effects

The most common possible Sildenafil Citrate (Red Serpent ED tablets) side effects with an incidence rate of 2% or more include headache, flushing, dyspepsia, abnormal vision, nasal congestion, back pain, myalgia, nausea, dizziness and rash.
The following events occurred in less than 2% of patients in controlled Sildenafil Citrate tablets clinical trials; a causal relationship to Sildenafil Citrate is uncertain. Digestive: vomiting, glossitis, colitis, dysphagia, gastritis, gastroenteritis, esophagitis, stomatitis, dry mouth, liver function tests abnormal, rectal hemorrhage, gingivitis.
Hemic and Lymphatic: anemia and leukopenia.
Metabolic and Nutritional: thirst, edema, gout, unstable diabetes, hyperglycemia, peripheral edema, hyperuricemia, hypoglycemic reaction, hypernatremia.
Musculoskeletal: arthritis, arthrosis, myalgia, tendon rupture, tenosynovitis, bone pain, myasthenia, synovitis.
Nervous: ataxia, hypertonia, neuralgia, neuropathy, paresthesia, tremor, vertigo, depression, insomnia, somnolence, abnormal dreams, reflexes decreased, hypesthesia.
Respiratory: asthma, dyspnea, laryngitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, sputum increased, cough increased.
Skin and Appendages: urticaria, herpes simplex, pruritus, sweating, skin ulcer, contact dermatitis, exfoliative dermatitis.
Special Senses: sudden decrease or loss of hearing, mydriasis, conjunctivitis, photophobia, tinnitus, eye pain, ear pain, eye hemorrhage, cataract, dry eyes.
Urogenital: cystitis, nocturia, urinary frequency, breast enlargement, urinary incontinence, abnormal ejaculation, genital edema and anorgasmia.

Sildenafil Citrate Tablets Overdosage

In studies with healthy volunteers of single doses up to 800 mg of Sildenafil Citrate tablets, adverse reactions were similar to those seen at lower doses but incidence rates and severities were increased.

In cases of Red Serpent overdose, standard supportive measures should be adopted as required. Renal dialysis is not expected to accelerate clearance as Sildenafil is highly bound to plasma proteins and it is not eliminated in the urine.
