Tugain Foam (Minoxidil Foam) is for patients with pattern baldness who have gradual hair loss on top of their head. It is not intended for frontal baldness or a receding hairline. Tugain Foam contains Minoxidil IP 5% w/v or 10% w/v respectively.

The active pharmaceutical ingredient contained in Minoxidil Foam (Tugain Foam) is Minoxidil IP 5.0 % w/w or 10.0 % w/w (Also contains: Absolute alcohol 50.63% v/w)
How to use Tugain Foam
You should apply Tugain Foam only when your hair and scalp are clean and dry. Apply half a a capful of Tugain Foam twice daily at 12-hour intervals to the scalp starting at centre of the affected area and spreading the foam out to cover the entire affected area. Each can will last one month, if used as directed.
To obtain the best results, Tugain Foam should be allowed to remain on the scalp for about 4 hours before washing.To enable the medication to dry the night time application should be done 2 to 4 hours before going to bed. A hair dryer should not be used to speed up the drying of the foam as it may decrease the effectiveness. You should not mix Tugain Foam with any hair oil. Do not use Minoxidil Foam 5% more than two times a day.
The medication should not be taken orally or applied to any other part of the body to avoid the risk of adverse effects and unwanted hair growth. More frequent use or longer application time have no effect on hair growth. In case you have missed any daily applications of Tugain Foam, you should continue with the next dose. Do not double your dose.
Wash your hands immediately after the application of Tugain Foam (Minoxidil Foam). Clinical experience with Minoxidil has indicated that inorder to observe evidence of hair growth, twice daily applications for 4 months or more may be required. To arrest hair fall,Tugain Foam should be used for not less than 45 days.
Tugain Foam – Dosage
Tugain Foam is for external use only. The recommended dosage is half a a capful of Tugain Foam twice daily. Use Tugain Foam should as per directions of use.
Warnings and Precautions to be taken when using Minoxidil Foam 5% & 10% (Tugain Foam)
Tugain foam is likely to cause scalp irritation. If scalp irritation continues or worsen, use of Tugain foam should be stopped. Use of Tugain foam should be stopped in case the patient develops chest pain, rapid heartbeat, faintness or dizziness, sudden and unexplained weight gain or swollen hands or feet.
Tugain foam 5% & 10% contains an alcohol base, which will cause burning and irritation of the eyes. In case of accidental contact with sensitive surfaces (such as eyes, abraded skin and mucous membranes), the area should be rinsed with large amounts of cool tap water.
If required, the scalp can be washed with a mild shampoo before applying the medication. Hair sprays or hair styling aids may be used on the hair while using minoxidil topical foam, but to obtain best results, Tugain foam should be allowed to penetrate into the scalp before using any styling products. Before colouring or perming hair or using hair relaxers, the following precautions are recommended:
To avoid possible scalp irritation, the Tugain foam should be washed off the hair and scalp thoroughly. For best results, application of Tugain foam should be avoided. Do not use minoxidil topical foam for 24 hours after any perm or color treatment to make sure that any chemicals used have not irritated the scalp. If no irritation occurs, continue use of Tugain foam.
Tugain Foam – Contraindications
Tugain Foam is contraindicated in the following situations:
- Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Minoxidil or any other ingredients present in the medication.
- Patients with cardiac abnormalities.
- Children below 18 years of age, pregnant women and nursing mothers.
- Patients in whom the reason for hair loss is unknown.
- Patients using occlusive dressings or other medicines on the scalp.
- On a shaved scalp
- In patients without any family history of hair loss which have sudden and/or patchy hair loss.
- Patients with red, inflamed infection, or irritated or painful scalp (including psoriasis and sunburn).
- Patients with hypovolemic states (e.g., co-treatment with diuretics, dehydration, etc.)
Storage Instructions for Minoxidil Foam 5% & 10% (Tugain Foam)
Store Minoxidil Foam below 25° C in a cool dry place. Do not refrigerate. Protect from light. Keep out of the reach of children.
Side Effects of Tugain Foam (Minoxidil Foam)
The common side effects of topical minoxidil that were observed in clinical trials were minor dermatological reactions like Local irritation including erythema/flushing, dry skin, itching, burning sensation, and rash. Dermatitis or hypertrichosis may occur. Infrequently occuring side effects of Tugain Foam include allergic reactions, dizziness, headache, tingling sensation, weakness, oedema, eye irritation, otitis externa, visual disturbance, hair abnormalities, chest pain, alterations in pulse or blood pressure, and hepatitis. These incidences may occur in 0.1-2% of patients.
