Alphagra tablets (Sildenafil Citrate) are used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (inability to sustain a satisfactory erection to complete intercourse), in men. It is also used in the treatment of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH). Alphagra tablets are available in strength of 100 mg.

Contraindications
Alphagra tablets are contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to Sildenafil Citrate or any inactive ingredient present in Alphagra tablets. They are also contraindicated in the following cases:
- Administration of this medicine to patients using nitric oxide donors, such as organic nitrates or organic nitrites in any form is contraindicated. Alphagra was shown to potentiate the hypotensive effect of nitrates.
- Severe hepatic impairment (decreased liver function)
- Severe impairment in renal function
- Sildenafil is contraindicated in men for whom sexual intercourse is inadvisable due to cardiovascular risk factors
- Hypotension (low blood pressure)
- Recent stroke or heart attack
- Hereditary degenerative retinal disorders (including genetic disorders of retinal phosphodiesterases)
Alphagra Tablets – Dosage
The recommended dose of Alphagra tablets for most patients is 50 mg to 100 mg taken, as needed, approximately 1 hour before sexual activity. However, Alphagra may be taken anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours before sexual activity.
The maximum recommended dosing frequency is once per day. Based on effectiveness and toleration, the dose may be increased to a maximum recommended dose of 100 mg. Alphagra tablets may be taken with or without food.
Storage Instructions
Store Alphagra tablets in a cool dry place where the temperature stays below 30°C. Do not store it or any other medicine in the bathroom or near a sink. Keep away from children or pets.
Warnings and Precautions to be taken when using Sildenafil Citrate Tablets
Before using Alphagra tablets please inform your doctor about all the medicines that you take including no prescription medications, over the counter medicines and herbal remedies.
Also inform your doctor about all your existing medical conditions including but not limited to heart problems such as a heart attack, irregular heartbeat, angina, chest pain, narrowing of the aortic valve or heart failure, heart surgery, stroke, low or high blood pressure, deformed penis, erection lasting 4 hours or more, sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia, retinitis pigmentosa, temporary severe vision loss, bleeding problems, stomach ulcers, liver or kidney problems. The other warnings and precautions to be taken are:
- Patients should not use Sildenafil Citrate tablets if sexual activity is inadvisable due to cardiovascular status
- Patients should seek emergency treatment if an erection lasts for more than 4 hours. Use Alphagra with caution in patients predisposed to priapism.
- Patients should stop Alphagra and seek medical care if a sudden loss of vision occurs in one or both eyes, which could be a sign of non arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). Sildenafil tablets should be used with caution, and only when the anticipated benefits outweigh the risks, in patients with a history of NAION. Patients with a "crowded" optic disc may also be at an increased risk of NAION.
- Patients should stop using this medicine and seek prompt medical attention in the event of sudden decrease or loss of hearing.
- Caution is advised when Alphagra is co-administered with alpha-blockers or anti-hypertensives. Concomitant use may lead to hypotension.
- Decreased blood pressure, syncope, and prolonged erection may occur at higher sildenafil exposures. In patients taking strong CYP inhibitors, such as ritonavir, sildenafil exposure is increased. Decrease in Alphagra dosage is recommended.
Possible Side Effects of Sildenafil Citrate Tablets
The most common possible side effects with an incidence rate of 2% or more include headache, flushing, dyspepsia, abnormal vision, nasal congestion, back pain, myalgia, nausea, dizziness and rash.
