Duonase Nasal Spray – Product Information
Duonase Nasal Spray is indicated for the management of symptoms of allergic rhinitis, once the need for an antihistamine and corticosteroid has been established. It is recommended for the treatment of moderate to severe persistent symptoms in adults and adolescents above 12 years of age.
Duonase Nasal Spray can also be used for treating non-allergic vasomotor rhinitis in adults and adolescents, 12 years of age and older.
Each spray delivers Azelastine Hydrochloride BP 140 mcg + Fluticasone Propionate 50 mcg. The bottle contains 70 metered doses.

What Is Duonase Nasal Spray Used For?

Drug Class and Mechanism
Fluticasone is a synthetic steroid of the glucocorticoid family of drugs that is used for treating allergic conditions involving the nose. Fluticasone mimics the naturally-occurring hormone produced by the adrenal glands, cortisol or hydrocortisone. The exact mechanism of action of fluticasone is unknown.
Azelastine Hydrochloride is an antihistamine.

Warnings and Precautions
Do not use Duonase Nasal Spray with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants or other antihistamines. Azelastine may reduce alertness, and impair the functioning of the central nervous system.
Special care is needed in patients with lung tuberculosis, and fungal and viral infections. Children who are on immuno-suppressant drugs are more susceptible to infections than healthy children. Chicken pox and measles, for example, can take a more serious or even a fatal course in children on immuno-suppressant corticosteroids.
During long-term therapy, monitoring of haematological and adrenal functions is advisable.
In clinical studies with intranasal fluticasone propionate, the development of localized infections of the nose and the pharynx, caused by Candida albicans, has been seen rarely. When such an infection develops, it may require treatment with appropriate local therapy and discontinuation of treatment with DUONASE Nasal Spray is advised

Side Effects of Duonase Nasal Spray

Headache, somnolence, pharyngitis, epistaxis, nasal burning/irritation, nausea, vomiting, cough, and taste disturbances. The combination may produce a bitter taste, which may lead to occasional nausea. This bitter taste usually disappears after sometime.
