Albuterol Sulfate Inhaler (Asthalin Inhaler) – Product Information

Albuterol Sulfate Inhaler (Salbutamol Sulphate) belongs to the class of medicines known as short acting beta2–adrenergic agonist. Albuterol Sulfate Inhaler is used in the treatment of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema, prophylaxis of exercise–induced asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Albuterol relaxes the smooth muscles of all airways, from the trachea to the terminal bronchioles, thus making breathing easier. We also have in stock Montelukast Sodium Tablets (Montair 10 mg, 5 mg and 4 mg tablets) which are used for the treatment of asthma and seasonal allergic rhinitis.

Name of Drug

Asthalin Inhaler contains 200 metered doses, each actuation delivers Salbutamol Sulphate IP equivalent to 100 mcg of Salbutamol IP (Albuterol).

Drug Uses

Salbutamol Inhaler is typically used to treat bronchospasm in bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema, and prophylaxis of exercise-induced asthma as well as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Other uses include in cystic fibrosis, along with ipratropium bromide, acetylcysteine, and pulmozyme and subtypes of congenital myasthenic syndromes associated to mutations.
As a beta2&ndas;agonist, Salbutamol Sulphate also finds use in obstetrics. Intravenous form of Albuterol Sulphate can be used as a tocolytic inorder to relax the uterine smooth muscle to delay premature labor. While Salbutamol is preferred over agents such as atosiban and ritodrine, its role has largely been replaced by the calcium-channel blocker nifedipine, which is orally administered, better tolerated and more effective than Salbutamol.

Fatalities have been reported in association with excessive use of inhaled sympathomimetic drugs like Salbutamol Inhaler in patients with asthma. The exact cause of death is unknown, but cardiac arrest following an unexpected development of a severe acute asthmatic crisis and subsequent hypoxia is suspected.

Drug Class and Mechanism

Pharmacologic studies have established that Albuterol Sulfate (Salbutamol Sulphate) has a preferential effect on beta 2 -adrenergic receptors compared with isoproterenol. It is generally acknowledged that beta 2 -adrenergic receptors are the predominant receptors in bronchial smooth muscle.Activation of beta 2 -adrenergic receptors on airway smooth muscle leads to the activation of adenyl cyclase and to an increase in the intracellular concentration of cyclic AMP. This increase of cyclic AMP leads to the activation of protein kinase A, which inhibits the phosphorylation of myosin and lowers intracellular ionic calcium concentrations, resulting in relaxation. Albuterol Sulfate relaxes the smooth muscles of all airways, from the trachea to the terminal bronchioles. Albuterol acts as a functional antagonist to relax the airway irrespective of the spasmogen involved, thus protecting against all bronchoconstrictor challenges.

Missed Dose

You should only use your your Asthalin Inhaler to relieve symptoms of asthma.
