Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient

The active Pharmaceutical Ingredient present in Silagra Tablets is Sildenafil Citrate.

Uses of Silagra Tablets

Silagra is used for treating erectile dysfunction (e.g., male impotence). When sexual stimulation causes local release of nitric oxide, inhibition of PDE5 by sildenafil Citrate (Silagra) results in smooth muscle relaxation and inflow of blood into the penis to achieve and maintain an erection.

Silagra Tablets – Dosage

For most patients, the recommended dose for SILAGRA is 50 mg. Silagra is to be taken approximately 1 hour before sexual activity. However you may take a silagra tablet anywhere from 4 hours to half an hour before sexual activity. The dose may be increased to a maximum recommended dose of 100 mg or decreased to 25 mg based on the effectiveness and toleration of the individual patient. Silagra is not supposed to be taken more than once per day.

Silagra Tablets – Contraindications

Administration of Silagra to patients who are using organic nitrates, either regularly and/or intermittently, in any form is contraindicated. Whether nitrates can be safely co-administered is not known at this time point.
Silagra is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to any component of the tablet.

Drug Class and Mechanism

Silagra is a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor and it works by helping the blood flow into the penis to achieve and maintain an erection during sexual stimulation.

Missed Dose

Silagra is to be used as necessary, so you are not supposed to take it according to a schedule.

Storage of Silagra

Silagra is to be kept in its original container. It is to be stored at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from moisture, heat and light and out of the reach of children.

Silagra Overdose

Studies conducted on healthy volunteers when a single dose of up to 800 mg was administered have shown that adverse effects were similar to those seen at lower doses but incidence rates were increased.

Warnings and Precautions to be taken when using Silagra Tablets

Do not take Silagra if you are also using a nitrate drug for chest pain or heart problems, including nitroglycerin (Nitrostat, Nitrolingual, Nitro-Dur, Nitro-Bid, Minitran, Deponit, Transderm-Nitro), isosorbide dinitrate (Dilatrate-SR, Isordil, Sorbitrate), and isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur, ISMO, Monoket), or recreational drugs such as amyl nitrate or nitrite ("poppers").
There is a potential for cardiac risk of sexual activity in patients with pre-existing cardiovascular disease. Therefore, treatments for erectile dysfunction, including sildenafil, should not be generally used in men for whom sexual activity is inadvisable because of their underlying cardiovascular status.
Before taking Silagra, tell your doctor about all other medications you use for erectile dysfunction, or if you are using any of the following medications:
  • bosentan (Tracleer);
  • a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin);
  • cimetidine (Tagamet, Tagamet HB);

  • doxazosin (Cardura), prazosin (Minipress), Terazosin (Hytrin);
  • HIV medicines such as amprenavir (Agenerase), tipranavir (Aptivus), darunavir (Prezista), efavirenz (Sustiva), nevirapine (Viramune), indinavir (Crixivan), saquinavir (Invirase, Fortovase), lopinavir/ritonavir (Kaletra), fosamprenavir (Lexiva), ritonavir (Norvir), atazanavir (Reyataz), or nelfinavir (Viracept);

  • carbamazepine (Tegretol), phenobarbital (Luminal), or phenytoin (Dilantin); or

Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you use. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start using a new medication without telling your doctor.
If you have heart problems severe enough to make sexual activity a danger, you should avoid using Silagra. Use it cautiously if you've had a heart attack, stroke, or life-threatening heart irregularities within the past 6 months. Be equally cautious if you have severe high or low blood pressure, heart failure, or unstable angina.
If you take Silagra and develop cardiac symptoms (for example, dizziness, nausea, and chest pain) during sexual activity, do not continue. Alert your doctor to the problem as soon as possible.
If you have a condition that might result in long-lasting erections, such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma (a disease of the bone marrow), or leukemia, use Silagra with caution.
