Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient

The active Pharmaceutical Ingredient in Doxinate is Doxylamine Succinate + Pyridoxine HCI (Vitamin B6) Pyridoxine is added to combat the side effects of the drug.
Pyridoxine assists in the balancing of sodium and potassium as well as promoting red blood cell production

What is Doxinate Used For

Doxinate (Generic Dozile) is used as a short-term treatment for sleep problems (insomnia), for pregnancy associated nausea and vomiting, and as an anti-histamine. Doxinate tablets contain doxylamine succinate which is a type of antihistamine called an ethanolamine derivative antihistamine. It has a sedating effect.

Doxinate Tablets – Dosage

The adult dosage is 1 tablet Doxinate or as prescribed. Do not exceed the recommended dosage. It is not for use in children. Take this medicine with food or milk if it upsets your stomach.

Drug Class and Mechanism

Doxinate is an antihistamine that reduces the natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. It is best to take Doxinate only when you can devote several hours to sleep. If it is almost your normal waking hour, skip the missed dose and wait until you are ready for bed again. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

Warnings and Precautions to be taken when using Doxinate Tablets

As there is risk of drowsiness, Doxinate tablets must be used with caution in those engaged in driving, operating machinery or other hazardous tasks and all activities necessitating alertness. It is not for use in children. Before using Doxinate, tell your doctor if you have glaucoma, kidney disease, an enlarged prostate, problems with urination, a stomach ulcer or obstruction, or a chronic lung disease such as bronchitis or emphysema.

Side Effects of Doxinate Tablets

Doxylamine succinate in Doxinate may cause drowsiness, vertigo, nervousness, epigastric pain, headache, palpitation, diarrhea, disorientation, irritability, convulsions, urinary retention or insomnia are diarrhea, nausea with or without vomiting, and abdominal pain.
Less common side effects of Doxinate Tablets are:

• nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• stomach problems
• headache
• dry mouth
• difficulty passing urine
• blurred vision
• thick mucous from your lungs.

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

• fast or irregular heartbeats

This is a serious side effect. Serious side effects are rare.
