Budenase AQ Nasal Spray (Budesonide Nasal Spray) is used for the treatment of asthma, non-infectious rhinitis (including hay fever and other allergies), and for treatment and prevention of nasal polyposis. Additionally, it is used for Crohn's disease (inflammatory bowel disease), and for the treatment and prevention of nasal polyps.

Budenase AQ Nasal Spray - Dosage

In adults and in children over the age of 6 years, the recommended starting dose of Budenase is 2-4 sprays in each nostril in the morning and again in the evening. Some physicians prescribe 4 sprays in each nostril in the morning.

Drug Class and Mechanism

Budesonide, the active ingredient of Budenase AQ Nasal Spray, is an anti-inflammatory synthetic corticosteroid.
Budesonide is a synthetic steroid belonging to the glucocorticoid family, a family in which cortisol (hydrocortisone) is the naturally occurring steroid. Hydrocortisone is produced in the adrenal glands. Glucocorticoid steroids have potent anti-inflammatory actions. When used as a nasal inhaler or spray, Budesonide goes directly to the lining of the nose, and only 20% of the administered dose is absorbed into the body.

Storage

Budenase AQ nasal spray should be kept at room temperature, 15-30°C (59-86°F). It should be shaken well before each use.

In addition the following symptoms should be reported immediately:

• difficulty breathing or swelling of the face
• white patches in the throat, mouth, or nose
• irregular menstrual periods
• severe acne
• rarely, behavioral changes—when these do occur, they seem to mostly affect children
