Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient
The active Pharmaceutical Ingredient present in Penegra Tablets is Sildenafil Citrate. Penegra is formulated as tablets equivalent to 50 mg and 100 mg of sildenafil for oral administration.
Uses of Penegra Tablets
Penegra is used for treating erectile dysfunction (e.g., male impotence). When sexual stimulation causes local release of nitric oxide, inhibition of PDE5 by sildenafil Citrate (Penegra) results in smooth muscle relaxation and inflow of blood into the penis to achieve and maintain an erection.
Penegra Tablets – Dosage
For most patients, the recommended dose for Penegra is 50 mg. Penegra is to be taken approximately 1 hour before sexual activity. However you may take a Penegra tablet anywhere from 4 hours to half an hour before sexual activity. The dose may be increased to a maximum recommended dose of 100 mg or decreased to 25 mg based on the effectiveness and toleration of the individual patient. Penegra is not supposed to be taken more than once per day.
Drug Class and Mechanism - How does Penegra Work?
Penegra is a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor and it works by helping the blood flow into the penis to achieve and maintain an erection during sexual stimulation.
Penegra is to be used as necessary, so you are not supposed to take it according to a schedule.
Storage of Penegra
Penegra is to be kept in its original container. It is to be stored at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from moisture, heat and light and out of the reach of children.
Warnings and Precautions to be taken when using Penegra Tablets
Do not take Penegra if you are also using a nitrate drug for chest pain or heart problems, including nitroglycerin (Nitrostat, Nitrolingual, Nitro-Dur, Nitro-Bid, Minitran, Deponit, Transderm-Nitro), isosorbide dinitrate (Dilatrate-SR, Isordil, Sorbitrate), and isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur, ISMO, Monoket), or recreational drugs such as amyl nitrate or nitrite ("poppers"). There is a potential for cardiac risk of sexual activity in patients with pre-existing cardiovascular disease.
Therefore, treatments for erectile dysfunction, including sildenafil, should not be generally used in men for whom sexual activity is inadvisable because of their underlying cardiovascular status.
